Njerae Drops “Aki Sioni (Magik Mix)” Following Universal Deal

Universal Music Group East Africa’s latest signee, Njerae, has dropped a new single. Dubbed “Aki Sioni remix,” the remix marks two years since the original was released.

Joining UMG EA and the Remix

In August 2024, Njerae signed with UMG EA after working as an independent artist since she began her music career. A month later, she has collaborated with Nigerian producer, songwriter, and sound engineer WonderMajik to create the remix

Njerae “Aki Sioni Magik Mix” reimagines the original track from her successful 2022 album, Unintentional. Since its release, the song has gained popularity, reaching number 24 on Kenya’s Top 200 Shazam chart and surpassing 10,000 Shazams this week.

Her debut album, Unintentional, is currently at number 85 on Apple Music Kenya’s Top 100 chart, two years after its release. Additionally, “Aki Sioni” continues to hold a spot on Apple Music’s Top Songs chart at number 66, showing its lasting appeal.

Remixes breathe new life into an existing track, giving it a fresh perspective. I wanted to experiment with my sound and see how I could transform something familiar into something amazing.

Inspiration Behind “Aki Sioni (Magik Mix)”

Njerae revealed that she was inspired by the positive reception to “Aki Sioni” on social media, in the streets, and on the stages where she performed.

As a way of giving back, she wanted to give her fans a fresh take of the song. “This version brings more of a summer vibe and is the perfect addition to your party playlist,” she said.

Before, Kobby Worldwide and Njerae produced “Aki Sioni” and the “Out with the Old” EP. Now, a new beatmaker with years of experience as a sound engineer has worked on the remix.

Collaborations and Future Prospects

Njerae’s work with WonderMajik was smooth, even though it was her first international collaboration with a producer. “He understands me and my sound so well that it feels easy,” Njerae said.

Working with UMG EA gives her international contacts and resources, helping her build a global portfolio. In an official statement about Njerae’s signing, UMG EA said, “UMG believes that Njerae is a special artist who will elevate East Africa’s music scene to the international stage.”
