tg.blk releases "gin and wine" music video

Kenyan alternative hip-hop artist tg.blk has released the visuals for her catchy song “gin and wine (ginuwine),” a track featured on her July 2024 EP, ITS NOT THAT DEEP.

The song and visuals span 2 minutes and 11 seconds and are warm, vibrant, and colorful, aligning with what fans have come to expect from her both sonically and visually.

“gin and wine” is her second video of the year, following “can’t stand It.” It comes just in time for the Christmas festivities.

Often spotted rocking her signature yellow wig, tg.blk, one of Kenya’s most streamed artists, has had a relatively quiet year. Despite releasing a six-song EP in June, her core fanbase craves more music, as she only released a song in 2023 and has been relatively quiet since her previous releases in 2021.

Unlike her previous music video for “can’t stand it,” which was shot on the streets of Nairobi with some neighbourhood scenes, the visual direction of “gin and wine” is different.

Let us first highlight the people involved, both behind and in front of the camera. “gin and wine (ginuwine)” is a song about lovers and their journey into the depths of romance. In this one, tg.blk stars alongside Joy Onyango, who plays the role of her love interest.

Directed by Bafe and herself, they channelled their creativity to bring fans this visual masterpiece. The cast also includes Njoroge Muthoni (IST & AC), Noaa Muthoni (Production Assistant), and Luca Rosa Wakarindi (Styling).

Tyler, the Creator Inspired? Yes, No, Maybe?

The music video is reminiscent of Tyler, the creator’s “Fucking Young” from his Cherry Bomb album. Both feature colourful landscapes, flowers, and A1 colour grading, bringing the “gine and wine” mood and lyrics to life.

The music video follows a vital discussion about her absence from Spotify’s Top Tracks of 2024 Kenya playlist following the 2024 Spotify Wrapped. Although her music did not make it onto the list, the self-proclaimed “tiny loaf of bread 🍞” is wrapping the year in style with these visuals.
