Wangechi Drops Stunning New Music Video for ‘Zile Zile’
Kenyan rapper Wangechi has released a new music video for her song “Zile Zile.” Off her latest album, Emotional Gangster, “Zile Zile” marks the second song to get a visual treatment following the lead single “Mzigo” in 2023.
Produced by Bckgrnd, “Zile Zile” features a laid-back instrumental with a constant catchy synth that makes it infectious. In her signature style and delivery, Wangechi rides the beat, flexing her rap muscle with a touch of bravado.
The music video, released on her birthday, January 19, marks a significant milestone. Having made her comeback two years ago after releasing CHONJO, a collaborative album with Scar Mkadinali, the timely release of “Zile Zile” finds her in a good space in her career, coinciding with a new age.
Wangechi first teased the video on Monday (January 15) in an Instagram post captioned,

A few days later, on Wednesday (January 17), she posted a snippet of the music video with the caption,

The Music Video
Directed by Natasha Ayoo, the video has a retro feel and features stunning visuals and an all-female cast.
It starts with Wangechi watching herself on an old analogue TV, followed by car scenes where she hangs out with a friend. Towards the end, the video showcases club scenes, all of which are beautifully captured.
“Zile Zile” marks the first time Wangechi has worked with Natasha Ayoo, and based on the outcome, it would be surprising if this were the last time.
