Blinky Bill “Get That Paper”
Blinky Bill, 1/3 of Just A Band, has been off the radar for some time. Since reuniting with his band in 2020 after a four-year hiatus, he has been on and off the scene. In 2024, however, that is about to be old news as he has just released a new song.
On Thursday (January 17), Blinky took to his social media pages to announce a new song. Dubbed “Get That Paper,” he posted the news in an Instagram post captioned:
With an upcoming album on the horizon, Blinky Bill “Get That Paper” is the second single off We Cut Keys 2 following November 2023’s “Dracula.”
“Get That Paper” is a song about getting money. With a catchy hook, “Oya, wake up, time to get the paper,” it is a breath of fresh air and shows the creativity fans have been accustomed to whenever Blinky hops on a track.
In April 2023, Just A Band released echo: dawn EP (which featured reworked music). Blinky has since been teasing his new album, We Cut Keys 2.
Samples and Interpolations
One of the most exciting parts of the song is the sampling. After the first verse, the song features an interlude that samples a speech by Pastor Pius Muiru, a popular Kenyan pastor from the late 90s and early 2000s.
Blinky interpolates the chorus to Necessary Noize’s “Da Di da,” utilizing the same flow and cadence in the second verse. Though inactive, Necessary Noize is a Kenyan music group comprising Nazizi and Wyre.
He interpolates the lyrics;

Blinky Bill “Get That Paper” Production and Music Video
Produced by himself and Emawk, “Get That Paper” is an alternative sound akin to Just A Band’s music. The song features a dominant trumpet synth and a funky instrumental.
The song arrived, along with its music video directed by Zack Adell. Known for his artistic style and creativity, Zack did justice to the video, giving it his signature artsy feel with a bold look and slow transitions between scenes.
‘We Cut Keys 2’ and Listening Party
In preparation for his album release, Blinky has announced a listening party a day before the release.
In a post shared on December 22, 2023, the multi-faceted artist revealed that he had been working on this album for three and a half years and gave its release date. Pre-save the album here.
